Toddler Sunglasses NZ — Ages 3 to 6 Years

Toddler sunglasses NZ — actually tough enough for kindy, the park, and everything in between

Finding toddler sunglasses that actually stay on — and survive being pulled off, thrown, stepped on, and occasionally chewed — is harder than it should be. Te Rā sunnies are made specifically for this stage. The TR90 frames flex in every direction without snapping, the lightweight design sits comfortably on little faces without slipping, and the styles are bright and fun enough that three and four year olds actually want to wear them.

Every pair is certified to AS/NZS 1067.1:2016 with UV400 Category 3 polarised lenses — the highest protection level available for NZ sun conditions. Toddlers spend a significant amount of time outdoors during peak UV hours — at the park, kindy, the beach, and Playcentre — and their still-developing eyes are more vulnerable to UV radiation than older children's.

Our toddler styles

  • Whetū (ages 3–6) — Our dedicated toddler sunglass, designed and sized specifically for the 3–6 age range. Named after the Māori word for star. Available in Midnight Black and Ink Blue. The flexible TR90 frame fits smaller toddler faces properly — not a shrunken adult style.
  • Koru (ages 5+) — For toddlers on the bigger end of this range. Our bestselling classic silhouette in Dusty Pink, Ivory White, and Chocolate Brown. Also the perfect sibling match with the Pepi (ages 0–2) — same iconic frame, same colours.

What actually matters for toddler sunglasses

Toddlers have a different set of requirements from older kids. They're rougher on their things, less likely to tell you when something's uncomfortable, and far more likely to refuse to wear them if they don't feel right. Three things determine whether a pair of toddler sunnies works in practice:

  • A fit that actually stays on — lightweight, sized for a toddler's smaller face, not heavy or loose. Heavy sunnies fall forward. Too-big frames slip off. Te Rā's Whetū is proportioned for this age group specifically.
  • Frames tough enough for toddler life — TR90 thermoplastic bends and springs back rather than cracking on the first drop, throw, or sit-on. We've heard from parents whose pairs have lasted two full years of kindy.
  • Real UV protection, not just a sticker — UV400 Category 3, certified to AS/NZS 1067.1:2016. Not all toddler sunglasses sold in NZ meet this standard. If there's no certification number on the product, the protection is unverified.

Te Rā's toddler range meets all three. Sized for toddler faces. Priced for real NZ families. Built from a material that genuinely survives childhood. From $39.99 NZD.
