Te Rā was founded on passion and a love for New Zealand’s great outdoors. The parks, the beaches, the sea - and the long, hot days in the sun. Too much of a good thing can be bad for you though, and too much time in the sun can be harmful, particularly for children. To help make it better, the Te Rā brand was born.
We love what we do!
We are crazy about sunglasses!
Inspired by our love for the outdoors and motivated to keep children safe in the New Zealand sun, we launched Te Rā Sunglasses, a range of sunglasses made just for kids. Te Rā Sunglasses allow children to enjoy the outdoors, protect their eyes and look stylish at the same time. Te Rā Sunglasses have been trialled with great success, and got YES! from our toughest audience – our own children.
Te Rā Sunglasses are made to last which means you won’t need to buy a new pair of sunnies for your child every time you visit the beach. They are also comfortable and vibrant, so kids want to wear them. We love knowing that we’re making children happy and keeping them safe. It’s why we do what we do.
What is Te Rā?
Inspired by New Zealand’s stunning outdoors, warm climate and Māori culture, our range of sunglasses is named Te Rā which means The Sun in Māori. Māori culture is widely represented across New Zealand and its heritage and symbolism are increasingly being woven into everyday life. The result is a melting pot of cultures and identities that make New Zealand truly unique and beautiful.
Through the name Te Rā, we hope to acknowledge and honour the Māori heritage and sun which plays such a pivotal role in New Zealand life. Taking this concept further, the individual styles have been named after symbols that we all can relate to, value and love. There’s whetū, which means star, mene (smile), moana (sea) and rangi which means sky or heaven. We hope your child enjoys wearing our sunglasses as much as we enjoy selling them.
